I came to Hong Kong in 2009 from New Zealand after marring my Wife Yvonne who is a Hong Kong local. In New Zealand I had working experiences in many different types of Industries including Technical and Retail owning my own business for 7 years. At the time Yvonne and I met I was involve in kitchen design using a 20/20 computer design program working for a Major New Zealand Home Decorating Retailer but knew if I was to move to Hong Kong would have to retrain for an Industry that I could contribute to there.

I couldn’t speak Chinese but thought as a native English speaker and coming from New Zealand where we use U.K. English the preferred form for Hong Kong I decided to do a TESOL Native English Teachers Certificate Course. Over the following months I worked through modules and did in class sessions through “Teach International” in Christchurch New Zealand and gained my TESOL Certificate.

This was the beginning of a whole new chapter of my Life as I embarked on a new exciting career as a Native English Teacher that I grew to Love and Enjoy like no other job I have had before. When I first came to Hong Kong I was employed through a Local Educational Agency and worked here for 3 years building up a good relationship with Principals, Teachers and of course all my Wonderful little students. Teaching at different Kindergartens, Nurseries and Centres around Hong Kong I soon build up a lot of experience using Local English Textbooks for classroom environments and Learnt to teach Phonics through many great courses like Letterland working with children aged from 2 years up to primary level. Soon I was also busy doing private tutorials with students Primary school aged through to adults.

But after 3 years of teaching in Hong Kong and finding I was mainly using my own materials that I made for my lessons rather than using the materials from the agency and using my own experience and ideas realised it was time for the next Exciting chapter of my Teaching Experience.

For the beginning of the 2013 to 2014 school year my Wife and I started “Roving English” from our very small home office in our very small Hong Kong apartment with some encouragement from some local schools and their principals we found enough work for myself and another part time Teacher and the rest as they say is history. We now have over 8 teachers working for us servicing over 20 schools and centres around Hong Kong.
